START FM is a radio station offering educational and informational programmes for refugees from Mosul and the Niniveh province. Programmes are produced by radio professionals from Mosul. START FM was established by MiCT – Media in Cooperation and Transition –, a non-profit media organisation based in Berlin with a local office in Iraq. MiCT’s activities comprise training of journalists and media producers, programme and content development, the production of radio programmes, films and books, as well as media monitoring in conflict and post-conflict zones.

MiCT has been implementing media projects on political and cultural topics in Iraq since 2004, in close cooperation with Iraqi activists, journalists, artists, and media producers. MiCT is running the Media Academy Iraq (www.mediaacademy-iraq.org) a consultancy and training organisation for the Iraqi media. The Website Niqash.org is also run by MiCT and is a platform for journalists from all parts of the country. For the FM broadcasting in some areas and especially in refugee camps, we have developed POCKET FM, a unique FM Transmitter. Check out www.pocket-fm.com
